At the African Centre for AI Governance and Oversight, we support governments in developing forward-looking AI policies and national strategies that are aligned with local priorities and global best practices. We provide end-to-end advisory services, from situational analysis and benchmarking to the design of actionable roadmaps that promote innovation while safeguarding rights, public trust, and accountability.

We assist governments in reviewing, drafting, and reforming legislation to address the legal implications of AI systems. Our work ensures that laws remain fit for purpose in the face of emerging technologies, covering areas such as liability, consumer protection, aviation,  data protection, intellectual property among others while maintaining coherence with existing legal frameworks.

We advise on the creation of effective regulatory models and institutional structures to oversee AI systems. This includes designing risk/rights-based regulatory approaches, clarifying mandates of oversight bodies, and supporting the establishment or strengthening of institutions responsible for AI governance and enforcement.

We help governments develop robust data governance policies that enable responsible data use while protecting individual rights. Our support includes frameworks for data sharing, cross-border data flows, public sector data management, and the development of digital infrastructure policies that underpin trustworthy AI ecosystems.

We deliver tailored training and capacity-building programmes for policymakers, regulators, and public sector institutions. These programmes are designed to enhance technical understanding, regulatory readiness, and institutional capability to govern and deploy AI systems effectively.
