Jane Awuor is a privacy and AI governance specialist with extensive experience advising organizations across Africa and globally on privacy compliance, data governance, and the responsible deployment of AI systems.
As Principal Consultant, Privacy & AI Governance at ACAIGO, she leads the Centre’s privacy and AI advisory and consulting function, providing strategic oversight on data governance, privacy compliance, and responsible AI practices. She advises organizations on the design and implementation of robust privacy and AI governance frameworks, and works closely with governments and public institutions to support the development of effective, contextually grounded AI policy and regulatory approaches across the African continent.
Jane brings a strong combination of technical expertise and policy insight, with experience advising multinational corporations, NGOs, pharmaceutical companies, and technology firms. Her work includes leading privacy audits, conducting impact assessments, implementing privacy-by-design programmes, and advising on cross-border data transfer frameworks across jurisdictions including Kenya, the European Union, and the United States.
In the AI governance space, she has worked on AI risk frameworks, regulatory gap analyses, and the responsible deployment of AI systems, and has contributed to policy submissions and regulatory reform processes on emerging technologies and data governance.
Jane is currently pursuing a Master’s in Artificial Intelligence and the Law at Queen Mary University of London. She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. She is a certified privacy professional, holding CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM, and FIP designations.
She is a member of the Law Society of Kenya, the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), and the Association of Privacy Lawyers in Africa.
