Christabel Atieno

Christabel Atieno is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a Certified Professional Mediator with over five years of post-qualification experience in regulatory compliance, corporate advisory, commercial law, employment law, and litigation.

As Head of Legal & Compliance at the African Centre for AI Governance and Oversight (ACAIGO), Christabel leads the Centre's in-house legal and compliance function, providing strategic legal advice and ensuring compliance with applicable legal and regulatory frameworks. She oversees institutional governance, contractual and commercial matters, legal risk management, due diligence, and regulatory compliance, supporting the Centre's operations and strategic partnerships across Africa.

Christabel has represented clients at all levels of the Kenyan judicial system and brings extensive experience in dispute resolution, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance. Her expertise enables her to provide practical legal guidance on complex legal and regulatory issues while supporting the Centre's work in AI governance, data protection, digital policy, and emerging technologies.

She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a Certified Professional Mediator.
